Track 02 · Reason or Fight EP · 2026

State Of Mind

A song about the same room, the same view from the hospital bed — and the slow agreement to change the angle, not the walls. To stop fighting yourself.

The Story

About this track.

State Of Mind is the conversation we have when we're brought back together for the same reasons, again. Same walls, same faces, the same view from the hospital bed. The song's argument is small and difficult: it's not the view that needs to change — it's the angle.

The chorus circles a single sentence — "be kind to one another, although I know, I do" — and the outro asks the question that gives this EP its name. Which part of me is reasoning? Which part of me wants to fight?

It's a song for the long, quiet work of choosing reason — without pretending the fight isn't still in the room.

"Which part of me is reasoning?"

Lyrics · Seven Movements

State Of Mind, in full.

IVerse · Brought Back Together

Here we are again, just you and I

Feeling uncomfortable, no

Face it, difficult to lie

Brought back together

Circumstances repeat

This time it seems, we need to talk

To understand the why

A minimum, together

You and I

It's time to stop the false pretences

Let's sort this

Agree to lower our defences

IIChorus

Not easy given our state of mind

Searching deep to find the answers

Was it all in vain

Not easy given our state of mind

Hours soul-searching, but rejecting the pain

Don't you agree, this time, we can at least try

Be kind to one another, although I know, I do

Not easy given our state of mind

IIIVerse · Stop The Cycle

However, this time

You and I, we need to talk

Stop the cycle, the dead end

Confusion

Look, face it

We're back again

The same solution

The cocktail perfusion

Stop

IVChorus · Nights Soul-Searching

Not easy given our state of mind

Searching deep to find the answers

Was it all in vain

Not easy given our state of mind

Nights soul-searching, but rejecting the pain

Don't you agree, this time, we can at least try

Be kind to one another, although I know, I do

Not easy given our state of mind

VVerse · Change The Angle

Similarities, we see them each time

Same walls, same faces, same view from the hospital bed

But here's the thing

It's not the view that needs to be changed

But the perspective

The angle

We need to stop fighting against ourselves

Let's work this out

After all, the similarities won't change

Oh no

There's only you and I

Who can change

We're in control, if we allow one another in

Let's talk and work things out

Take control of the path we're walking

Because let's face it,

We're walking this path together

And that won't change

VIChorus · Reprise

Not easy given our state of mind

Searching deep to find the answers

Was it all in vain

Not easy given our state of mind

Nights soul-searching, but rejecting the pain

Don't you agree, this time, we can at least try

Be kind to one another, although I know, I do

Not easy given our state of mind

VIIOutro · Reason or Fight

Although here's the difficult part to understand

With all good intentions and taking a stand,

Speaking to you now, through the words I write,

Which part of me is reasoning?

Which part of me wants to fight?
